Air Navigation Pro 3.1.1 for iPhone/iPod/iPad has been submitted to the AppStore. It should be available shortly and fix various bugs with the database upgrade process, waypoints search and user interface issues on iPad.

Air Navigation Pro is being updated to run as a native application on iPad devices. It will be released as an universal iPhone - iPad application. Release date is not yet available but should be somewhere around mid-may.

Air Navigation 3.0 release notes

- Major overhaul !
- Cleaner and easier to understand and use user interface
- Improved graphics
- Modules indented to be used in flight have a dark background, modules intended to be used before flight have a light background
- Increased text size in modules and lists intended to be used in the cockpit for easier readability
- It is possible to buy and use in the moving map US Sectional charts

- Free of charge maps from Openstreetmap.org have been improved. They are more detailed and have a 25 % higher resolution. You can download the new maps from the new "Map Store" module
- Full automatic, fully editable logbook. The logbook will use GPS information to detect block and flight time as well as departure and arrival place. The Logbook is now storing time as UTC and all values are fully editable.
- New instrument : Groundspeed indicator
- New instrument : Flight information, display all values as numeric in big font, compute and display flown distance
- New instrument : Flight time. This instrument represent block and flight time for your current flight. You can set the information either manually or automatically using GPS events. When a flight is complete, it will be stored in the logbook where it can also be edited.
- Logbook can be send by email as a text file
- Now it is possible to display the frequencies of a particular waypoint in the active navigation plan module
- Added a "Revert to factory defaults" button to reset the application in case of issues

Navigation flight plans (as standalone files).
- Added a flight recorder : when turned on, the flight recorder will start recording your GPS position and altitude when block-off time is set (either manually or automatically) and stop when block-on time is set. It is possible to get the recorded flight as a KML file that can be viewed in Google Earth from the embedded web server
- Changed airspaces look to look more like the official ICAO look
- Added official Airports, Frequency and airspace data for Germany
- Added Ultralight airfields for France from the FFPLUM (http://www.ffplum.com/Website/site/zonebricabrac_dossierdevol_lfddnn.htm)
- Fixed a bug where some airspaces would appear in meters instead of as feet
- Fixed a few bugs that would cause a crash under some circumstances

Here is a list a fix and new features :

Here is a list of what's new in version 2.6.0 :

- One of the most requested feature : map can be set to follow airplane track orientation, simply tap the symbol on the top left corner to switch between north orientation and track orientation

- Better support for external GPS units. It is possible to use and external GPS with an iPod touch for example. You may have to enable the "Alternate course and speed" setting to get correct values in the map and gyro driven instruments. The good news is that you could also use Air Navigation with "Airplane mode" turned on and an external GPS. The bad news is that you may have to jailbreak your iPhone/iPod touch to use the external GPS. I will do some deep testing with an officially supported external GPS such as the Tom Tom car kit for iPod touch during next week and hope to support it. Please note that we do not encourage jailbreaking of iPhone/iPods touch.

- Map luminosity is dimmed in night mode (3 taps to switch between day and night mode)

- Fixed bugs in airspace data

- Updated waypoint and airports database

- Added airspace data for USA, Belgium, Australia (thanks to Andrew Moneron), Denmark, Sweden, South Africa (thanks to Andrew Moneron)

A lot of new features and a major overhaul for the map and the database ! Here is a list of what's new in version 2.5.0

- Application launch time is 25x faster
- Reduced memory usage
- Removed slipball from map now map surface on screen is 40 % bigger
- Now direct to or navigation plan selection is made from a semi-transparent control on the map
- Added control to toggle navigation information on map on and off to display a bigger area of the map
- Improved readability of navigation information on the map
- Added control to set dynamically which objects are displayed on map (zones, waypoints, etc)
- Added airspaces information (A to F, CTR, danger, prohibited, etc) for Germany, France, Austria, Switzerland and Italy (more to come in the future releases)

- Navigation plan or direct to waypoint are now restored upon relaunch
- Map data is now stored in a place outside iTunes backup. You should not need to delete map data before backing up your device.
- HSI will now display a correct radial event if not moving
- Instrument requiring a valid course now works when speed is 3 kts or more

It should be available in 1 or 2 weeks. Here is a list of new features and bug fixes :

- Now it is possible to delete maps (by country, or all maps). If you are experiencing slow iPhone backup you may try to delete map data. iTunes seem to dislike backuping large amount of files. You can redownload needed map when the backup is finished.
- Added fields in Navigation plan editor to enter the wind direction and speed as well as aircraft cruise speed. This information is used to compute wind correction. True heading or magnetic heading and correct estimated leg time will be computed and displayed in navigation plan legs
- Added airfields elevation
- Added an option to auto adjust OBS in VOR and HSI on waypoint selection
- Nearby waypoints list is now sorted by distance
- Distance is now displayed in nearby waypoints list
- Runways are displayed with correct orientation in navigation plans

Passport Picture 1.4.1 available

- Fixed compatibility with MacOS X 10.6
- Now PassportPicture require MacOS X 10.4 or higher to run

Air Navigation Pro 2.2.0 and standard 1.2.0 have been submitted to the AppStore and should be available within a week.

The current 2.0.0 version of Air Navigation Pro uses the main www.opensteetmap.org server to get maps.

Unfortunately, due to the huge activity on this server, clients may not receive map data correctly for different reasons.

I am aware of this issue and I builded a dedicated map server (a mirror of www.openstreetmap.org data). This server will cache pregenerated tiles as well as generate tiles on the fly if needed. It should be much faster and download should perform without errors.

An update to Air Navigation Pro (2.0.1) was published on iTunes AppStore on wednesday July, 22. It normally takes a week to be available for endusers. This update will use the dedicated server to get maps and fixe a few bugs/possible crashes.
